Here is a summary of this Napoleon Hill Quotes video and commentary.

W. Clement Stone introduces Napoleon Hill.

The Master Key consists of 17 principles. The first is definiteness of purpose.

Know what you want. Write it down.

You will learn the master key when you are ready to receive it.

Whatever the mind can conceive and believe the mind can achieve. This has nothing to do with a person’s education.

Hill cites Thomas A. Edison as an example.

Hill began to search for the power behind this secret when he heard Andrew Carnegie describe it.

When Hill told Andrew Carnegie that the steel magnate had chosen the wrong man to research and promote a philosophy of success, Carnegie gave Hill a lecture that changed the author’s life.

Carnegie told Hill that all success begins with a definiteness of purpose. This means a clear picture in your mind of precisely what you want from life.

Then Carnegie continued. Everyone can control his or her mind and direct it to whatever ends one may choose.

You have two envelopes. One says “the riches you may enjoy if you take charge of your own mind and direct it to the ends of your own choice.” The other is “the penalties you must pay if you neglect to take possession of your mind and direct it.”

Hill lists the contents of the “riches” envelope and the “penalties” envelope.

Write a clear description of what you want. Your only limitations are the ones you set up for yourself.

Write a clear statement of precisely what you intend to give in return for what you want.

Memorize your statements. Repeat a dozen times. Give gratitude.

Do not ask for riches. Ask for wisdom.

Here’s the most important point, an exercise, and an mp3:

Carnegie told Hill that all success begins with a definiteness of purpose. This means a clear picture in your mind of precisely what you want from life.

Here is why this is so important. Definiteness of Purpose spawns lots and lots of good things.

For example, you will never develop a Burning Desire for success without Definiteness of Purpose. And a Burning Desire is important because it impresses upon your subconscious mind what you want.

Definiteness of Purpose means that you can engage the Principle of Autosuggestion. When you know what you want with absolute clarity, you can begin to impress your desire upon the subconscious mind again and again and again.

Definiteness of Purpose also means that you can become an accurate thinker. This means that you can focus upon ideas that impact the accomplishment of your Definite Chief Aim.

These are reasons why you do yourself a huge favor by knowing exactly what you want from life. Your mind of success works efficiently and can generate dramatic results.

And this is good for your bank account as well. Tony Robbins says “Life will pay any price you ask of it.”

So know what you want. And keep asking for it until you get it.

Here is the exercise and an mp3:

Start with the quote “Whatever the mind can conceive and believe the mind can achieve.”

This is what I call a “drive-through window” exercise. Let your mind of success remind you to remember this exercise every time you notice your reflection in a mirror.

As you do this, here are some thoughts to turn over in your mind. The more you do this, the more you begin to walk, talk, think, and act like the successful person you are already becoming.

Suppose that every time you look in the mirror you see someone who knows that whatever the mind can conceive and believe it can achieve. Suppose that this person is so established in a positive mental attitude and this success principle that any result except success is unthinkable.

Suppose that this person knows that anything he or she decides to do is as good as accomplished. Suppose that this person regards the obstacles on the way to this success as little more than problems to be solved and challenges to be overcome.

Suppose that this person has had so much experience with this success principle that it is not something he or she believes. It is something he or she knows for sure.

Imagine how this person sees the world as a result of this total conviction that whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve. Imagine the possibilities that are open to this person.

The more you imagine that this person is you, the more your self-image becomes that of a high achiever. The more you see yourself as a high achiever, the more the current boundaries of your life melt into the distance.

Why? The comfort zone of this person is very large and getting more expansive.

Imagine being so sure of the principles of success that your mind of success responds with certainty as you look in the mirror and say “Whatever you can conceive and believe, you can achieve.”

So this exercise is really a moment of mindfulness. And this is prompted by seeing your reflection in the mirror and letting your mind explore who that person is becoming.

So here’s how to become this person. Think about this person a lot.

According to Earl Nightingale, “You become what you think about.”

And this person that you are already becoming is a good thing to think about, wouldn’t you agree?

In this recording (15:31), I explore the ideas of the “two envelopes.” One is marked “riches” and the other is marked “penalties.” The more you follow Hill’s teachings and “take possession of your mind and direct your thoughts,” the more you open and enjoy the “riches” envelope. That’s a good idea, wouldn’t you agree?
